Several days ago the astrological chart of Elizabeth Smart’s kidnapping was posted. That chart was a progressed daily angles with transit chart based on her precession corrected Solar Return. This chart is for the same event but is a Moon-to-Sun Return chart; transiting Moon returning to her natal Sun. This form of chart represents our whole personal stance of the moment and the near term situations it is leading us to. The chart moment is a point of poise and wholeness as we assess, respond and prepare to move into a distance and new phase of our life.
As previously noted, a Brian David Mitchell entered her bedroom in the very early morning hours of June 5, 2002, held a knife to her throat, and forced her to quietly leave with him while the family slept. The following Moon-to-Sun Return chart happened on May 24, 2002, twelve days before her kidnapping.
The transiting planets are found in the inner wheel, natal planets in the outer chart wheel. We have here a 3rd house Moon-to-Sun Return, Moon at 11:04 Scorpio, Sun at 10:52 Scorpio — the Moon being at the precession corrected position for the Sun. From my notebook for a 3rd house Moon-to-Sun Return, “Being more alert, open to ideas, curiosity, an interest in those around you. Writing, talking, receiving notices, signing agreements. Travel and shopping for bargains but not necessarily buying. Study and presentations being prepared. Taking in news and information for personal use. Neighbors and relatives contact you.” Of these typical-to-normal-life statements, only the last sentence is really is applicable—her kidnapper lived nearby and had once done contracting work at her home. Elizabeth’s natal chart had Sun conjoining Pluto, a cosmic set-up for a transformative experience. This recalls the mythic story of Pluto. Smart’s natal 8th house (death, love, taxes, unequal treatment) is on the Moon-to-Sun Return chart’s Ascendant.
Transiting Sun-Mercury is at the Return chart’s MC and opposing transiting Pluto at the IC. The doubled-Pluto positions point to a tragic and transforming, brutal experience. The Sun, representing her best interests and her perceptions, opposed to Pluto, signifies a horrifying experience. The transiting Part-of-Fortune (PoF) at 20 Aquarius squares her MC-IC axis: family life and status are subject to “chance and change” conditions.
This is what this particular date, May 24th, or the following two weeks, indicates. The devastating event actually happened twelve days later — the chart is shown below.
Transits are shown on the inner wheel, natal position in the outer wheel. The Moon-to-Sun Return chart has been advanced to June 5th by recasting the Return chart for twelve days later for the same time. This advances the angles by about a degree per day while depicting the actual transits for the chosen date. Here, we note Sun, Saturn and N.Node at the MC: from which we can pick any of many sets of key words — a man (Sun) will restrict (Saturn) her associations (N.Node), or her sense of self and best interests (Sun) are inhibited and denied (Saturn) relative to her associating with others (N.Node). Transiting Nodal axis is on the Return chart’s MC-IC axis along with natal Saturn-Uranus: the status quo takes on a new start, ending/changing former circumstances. We note transiting Saturn opposite transiting Pluto on this date; a time of brutality, tough talk, devastation of circumstances and home.
Transiting N.Node square natal Mars, natal N.Node conjoins transiting Mars: Doubled-up Mars’ points to anger and harm, doubled-up N.Nodes points to those we associate with being a problem for us. Also, we have a Lunar Return on this date, transiting Moon picking up on the natal Moon’s opposition to natal Mars: Moon signifies our fears, changes, emotional upset (with Mars).
These Moon-to-Sun Returns, along with advance-by-days and the Moon-opposite-Sun Returns are an interesting set of charts to make use of for prediction. Dave
