Bob Barker, TV host of the Price is Right game show, made a decision on Oct. 15th, 1987; to appear on TV without the use of hair coloring! For you and me, this might be a small thing. Not on TV, not at that time, not on a major network, not after many years as a dark-haired game show host. Then, the dark hair had lots of gray showing. Today, Barker is seen and remembered for having impeccable white hair. It’s been that long.
Should we expect to see something major in his chart for that date? Astrologically, this is not a major event in his life. Let us see what the chart shows us.
Daily chart MC 9 Scorpio in the natal 1st house
Daily chart Asc 19 Capricorn in the natal 3rd house
Most notable is t/Venus conjoing the natal Asc. and n/Mars. We have seen that Barker’s n/Mars represents his presence on the TV stage, his direction of the show’s moment-by-moment conversations and actions. In other venues he is a protector of animal rights, a very forceful protector. Here, t/Venus, Ascendant and n/Mars points to a form of poise and comfort within himself.
Close upon this pattern is t/Pluto and t/MC. We can treat this grouping as a full-scale conjoing pattern. From the in-the-process-of-being-published book, Personal Prediction, we find the following definition in Chapter Seven: “PDA MC @ Natal Asc.: Today you may be in the spotlight or asked to justify your position or goals for better or worse. You may find yourself in a position of speaking or testifying for yourself or another in a public venue, in court or at work. ” This is a “cook book” definition, designed to provide a sense of what/how the combination of t/MC and n/Asc. may play out. Bob Barker was in the spotlight that date, making a stand for ignoring TV practices so as to be more truthful in his appearance on TV. Barker was the first to take this action, and would be followed by others over time. Not all, of course. Some, like comedian Milton Berle, lived to a ripe old age with very black hair painted in place.
Is there more, astrologically, to this story. We can note the daily or transiting Ascendant at 19 Capricorn, widely conjoining n/Venus. From previous postings we have seen that “doubled up” planets (t/Venus and n/Venus at/near angles) shape the main theme of the chart. Venus stands for appearance, harmony, balance among many other things. Natal Moon is at the n/IC angle, while transiting Moon is close to the MC angle in a general opposition pattern. Doubled up Moons point to women and their responses, as well as the public in general. This pattern across the vertical natal axis of the chart points to a story involving public appeal and image.
This is small stuff, astrologically and historically, but it does show Bob Barker following a natural pattern and cosmic role in his life. Dave.
