Image, on TV, is everything

Bob Barker, TV host of the Price is Right game show, made a decision on Oct. 15th, 1987; to appear on TV without the use of hair coloring!  For you and me, this might be a small thing.  Not on TV, not at that time, not on a major network, not after many years as a dark-haired game show host.  Then, the dark hair had lots of gray showing. Today, Barker is seen and remembered for having impeccable white hair.  It’s been that long.

Should we expect to see something major in his chart for that date?  Astrologically, this is not a major event in his life.  Let us see what the chart shows us.

Daily chart Asc 19 Capricorn in the natal 3rd house

Most notable is t/Venus conjoing the natal Asc. and n/Mars.  We have seen that Barker’s n/Mars represents his presence on the TV stage, his direction of the show’s moment-by-moment conversations and actions.  In other venues he is a protector of animal rights, a very forceful protector.  Here, t/Venus, Ascendant and n/Mars points to a form of poise and comfort within himself.

Close upon this pattern is t/Pluto and t/MC.  We can treat this grouping as a full-scale conjoing pattern.  From the in-the-process-of-being-published book, Personal Prediction, we find the following definition in Chapter Seven:  “PDA MC @ Natal Asc.:  Today you may be in the spotlight or asked to justify your position or goals for better or worse.  You may find yourself in a position of speaking or testifying for yourself or another in a public venue, in court or at work. ”  This is a “cook book” definition, designed to provide a sense of what/how the combination of t/MC and n/Asc. may play out.  Bob Barker was in the spotlight that date, making a stand for ignoring TV practices so as to be more truthful in his appearance on TV.  Barker was the first to take this action, and would be followed by others over time.  Not all, of course.  Some, like comedian Milton Berle, lived to a ripe old age with very black hair painted in place.

Is there more, astrologically, to this story.  We can note the daily or transiting Ascendant at 19 Capricorn, widely conjoining n/Venus.  From previous postings we have seen that “doubled up” planets (t/Venus and n/Venus at/near angles) shape the main theme of the chart.  Venus stands for appearance, harmony, balance among many other things.  Natal Moon is at the n/IC angle, while transiting Moon is close to the MC angle in a general opposition pattern.  Doubled up Moons point to women and their responses, as well as the public in general.  This pattern across the vertical natal axis of the chart points to a story involving public appeal and image.

This is small stuff, astrologically and historically, but it does show Bob Barker following a natural pattern and cosmic role in his life.  Dave.

Returning to Bob Barker, TV Game Show Host

FILES — The new Sea Shepherd icebreaker Bob Barker sails seen in this handout photograph obtained January 6, 2010. Though Bob Barker, is known for his affability and gentleness toward people with no conception of what things cost, a ship named for Mr. Barker, the former “Price Is Right” host and former Miss Universe and Miss USA Emcee (inset), had its first confrontation with whalers on Tuesday, The Associated Press reported. The Bob Barker, a 1,200-ton vessel operated by the Sea Shepherd Conservation Society, the group featured on the Animal Planet series “Whale Wars,” was among the ships that tried to stop a Japanese whaling mission in waters near Antarctica. Mr. Barker, 86, donated the money for his namesake ship after meeting the Sea Shepherd founder Paul Watson through a fellow animal advocate. “He said he thought he could put the Japanese whaling fleet out of business if he had $5 million,” Mr. Barker told The A.P. This is one of the expressions of Mars on the Ascendant in Bob Barker’s natal chart.  He does not exhibit typical Mars-symbology in his TV Game Show Host persona other than that of being highly “present” or being the focus of activities.  This is not the focus of today’s posting on Bob Barker but it does help answer the question of just what Mars on his natal Ascendant degree means in his life.  Working with animals, advocating for animals, defending animals with one own efforts and monies, enabling others to help animals, and Whales, is all symbolic of Mars.  Bob is a fighter.  More pictures later.

Barker started hosting the Price is Right on Sept. 4th, 1972.  His PDA, Progressed Daily Angles chart, is shown below.

MC 17 Scorpio  Asc. 28 Capricorn       Co-Descendant CD 6 Virgo

Since angles are the primary focus of these charts, we first notice that t/MC at 17 Scorpio squares natal MC at 16 Leo, suggesting that a challenge or change will relate to his career.  Since n/Moon opposes n/MC, it is likely that the public will be part of the equation in planning for this change.  Will he be well received in this venture?  The CD point at 6 Virgo conjoins n/N.Node, his ability to find or build associations with others will be an issue.  T/Sun is nearby the CD point, a favorable outlook can be seen as a supportive factor in this action.  Playing astrological hopscotch, we can jump to the natal Sun and find it at 19 Sag sextile n/Moon and roughly sextile t/Uranus, both positive indicators in this case within the context of his life and career.

Finally, t/Moon and t/Venus are opposite t/Ascendant; the love of the public will be a strong factor in his outreach through this new TV Game Show.

Astrology is just this simple when viewed within the context of your life.  My new book, Persona; Prediction, will be sent to the printers in the next week or so and available by the end of the summer. This book will provide a clear step-by-step introduction in the concepts, the construction and the interpretive model of this system for prediction built upon the MC-Solar Cycle, the combination of the progressed MC angle between successive Solar Returns and the annual Solar Cycle.  Both of these two fundamental cycles in our astrological charts paint a moving picture of our life, and marks the 15 or 20 days each year in which significant events seem to occur.

Now, for a few more BoB Barker and animal photos.

Politics, the Court & Health Care — Part Three

Last week defined what we know about the U.S. Supreme Court and what we don’t know about the U.S. Supreme Court.  The news analysts have done their work, their verdict is out–our Chief Justice has played a political card in order to keep the Court from appearing to be political!  Imagine that.  Split 5 to 4 against letting the Affordable Health Care Act  be ‘constitutional” the Chief Justice is said to have thought about the Gore-versus-Bush decision on the Florida 2000 vote, and the recent ruling that lets unfettered cash be collected and spent by Political Action Groups.  If the court decided against what elected officials put into law and which gave the population much-needed health care benefits, then the court would be seen as being highly political and a popular upswell was likely.  The Court has an image to uphold, so the answer was to find a way around the “mandate” being feasible under the interstate commerce act.  Part of the answer was to call it a tax.  The other part of the answer was for the Chief Justice to side with the liberal wing of the court.  He did just that on the 28th of June, 2012.  A new and developing health care process is being put into place.

Here, the chart for June 28th is again presented. In this post the subject of politics will be addressed.  Mercury is talk, Mars is arguments and action, the Sun is authority and legal action/decisions, Pluto is hidden power, influence by money/corporations.  Moon represents the people, Jupiter the courts, Saturn the institutions and Neptune is tied into drugs, pharmaceuticals, and medicine (along with Mercury).

From a political view, we can consider the following chart components:  The Sun transits the Affordable Health Care Act Ascendant:  It suggests that a high authority is involved in the nation’s business, image and interests.  t/Sun conjoins the Health Care Act’s Moon:  Presented as a set of laws for the people’s benefit, the legal system brings its power and influence to bear.  t/Sun, the Act’s Ascendant and Moon oppose both Pluto positions, natal and transiting–natal Pluto more strongly: Power and politics, monied interests and business interests stand opposed to the Court, the Health Care Act and the nations populace.

After reviewing the Sun, Ascendant, Moon and Pluto, we need to hop-scotch or jump over to their counterparts.  t/Ascendant (for June 28th) is in the 11th house of joint efforts for society at large and broadly opposes t/Moon and t/Saturn in the 5th house of chance and proving one’s confidence.  This same daily Asc. also squares t/Mercury at 2 Leo and the Health Care Mars at 1 Leo in the 2nd house.  Mars can represent the force that argues for the value of the Act, t/Mercury can be the thoughts and ideas that are brought to bear on this date.  Note that the Health Care Mercury is in the 10th house and 12th house of the daily chart.  This can be looked at in many ways:  The Act’s words and details are discussed in secret, the Act’s public image and what is said about it is managed without a public role being played out.

The Act’s Sun is opposed by Saturn:  Intent, will and action is being constrained as others seek to push it through (t/Mars conjoining Saturn).  Pluto in the 7th represents political power, hidden forces, those who want to change the Affordable Health Care Act in the house of open enemies.  This is a battle that will not end.  Health Care, as a public service, will always have enemies in spite of the money to be made off of it.  Finally, we need to consider t/Moon on the 28th conjoining t/Saturn; suggesting the public constraint and reaction (or lack thereof).  Apparently public enthusiasm will have to left for another day, perhaps election day.

These are just my thoughts looking at the political side of this amazing day.  Again, what strikes me is that “Astrology” reflects the whole situation that emerges and not the one or several narrow views we seek to find in the chart.  Charts of this nature are broader than the narrow focus we cast them in.  Dave
