An Old Icon Becomes A New Icon

December 30, 2015.  Bill Cosby, comedian, actor, TV star was charged with aggravated assault relative to forced sexual relations.  This charge relates to a 2004 case that was settled in a civil suit.  There are many other outstanding claims against Cosby by dozens of other women.  

These two photos show Cosby as he presently appears (top) and as he appeared in his younger days.

Cosby had been a highly popular figure in American culture, moving from earlier comedy routines (such as Fat Albert) to his popular family doctor TV show of two decades ago.  The unsealed documents of a prior incident have revealed that he often gave drugs to women in order to have sex with them.  He admitted to several such incidents.  His wife has stood by him without public comment.  We will look at his t/Moon-to-n/Sun Return and an Advanced chart for this latest development.

Most notable in this Return chart is the realignment of natal angles with the Return chart’s angles.  This signals a major shift in one’s life, with a different path emerging.   t/Moon-n/Sun in the 4th house also adds to this narrative; something ending, something starting, all of which affects his home life.  Now, add t/Uranus at the Ascendant; surprising changes are personally alarming.   The t/Part of Fortune has just passed t/Mars and is approaching n/Mars; “chance and change” is the theme of the day as it relates to his actions, promotion of self, projection of power.  There is more, but let us instead look at the Advanced chart for Dec. 30, 2015 when he was taken to the Police Station, charged, and then released after posting one million dollars in bail.

The MC angle has conjoined n/MC and t/Pluto.  The natal angles remain aligned with the chart’s angles.  All of the hallmarks of a major shift in his life are there.  Now, note t/Moon-n/Moon — he is having a Lunar Return as well on this date.  Emotions are running high.  t/Part of Fortune squares the nodal axis and t/Jupiter (legal system) while opposing n/Chiron — he has some adjustments to make in terms of his views of people and his attitude towards them.

Now, note t/Venus opposing n/Venus across the 8th-2nd houses, squaring t/Neptune.  Just what is love, lust, distorted values.  Are these all mixed up in Cosby’s mind on this date?  Can Neptune be involved in a “reality check?”

What goes up has to come down

On Dec. 21, 2015, a SpaceX rocket, the Falcon-9, was launched from Cape Canaveral.  Many rockets have been launched before; this launch was different in one important aspect.

Ten minutes after launch, with the payload successfully delivered (comm satellites sent into orbit), the first stage of the rocket (lower photo) returned to Earth, landing on its designated landing pad six miles away from the launch site.  This was a major step forward in lowering the cost of space travel and exploration.

What charts are used in this blog?  The first successful launch of a Falcon rocket, the Falcon-1-4, was the fourth attempt from the Kwajalein Islands (part of the Marshal Islands group in the Pacific) on Sept. 28, 2008 at 11:15 AM.  Considering this event as a natal chart, and relocating it to Florida, we can look at the Dec. 21, 2015 launch using t/Moon-n/Sun Returns.  The following bi-wheel chart has the relocated Falcon-1-4 launch chart in the outer wheel, the launch chart in the inner wheel.

This is a t/Moon-opposite-n/Sun Return, 5th to 11th houses.  The emphasis is on creativity and achieving broad social aims.  SpaceX founder Elon Musk wants to locate a colony on Mars.  This launch-return event is just one important step in that direction.  Note t/Venus-Asc.  Harmony and happiness shapes this chart.  t/Part of Fortune (t/PoF) is on the IC; This is a challenge that can achieve a new start or changed condition in the private space program arena.  Located between natal and transiting Neptune, this ‘challenge’ unites the dream of the past with the dream of the future.

Although not angular, t/Sun is always an important trigger in these types of charts.  Here, t/Sun-n/Pluto symbolizes the driving force behind this program.  The unwavering effort by Elon Musk to bring his intentions to life and into reality is part of this conjoining.  This continues the n/Sun-square-n/Asc. challenge of the initial successful launch seven years ago in the Pacific.  It should also tell us that this life-dream will continue many years into the future.

The Falcon-9 delivered its payload.  The first stage, after separation, re-oriented itself, restarted its engines and landed upright ten minutes after launch.  Great excitement ensued at the control center.  We can understand that.  Beyond that excitement lies several important issues that affect our future here on Earth.

• Since the first stage was returned, it can be examined to see how it stood up and whether it can be used again without excessive cost or repair.  Note t/Jupiter advancing ahead of n/Saturn.  This pair represents the ‘business of life.’  Jupiter represents advances and opportunity in this phase of the project.  This is the future of this program; continuing opportunity.
• Re-starting an engine in space is significant.  The Falcon-9 used a ‘densified’ propellant for greater boost efficiency.  Can n/Mercury-n/MC which broadly squares t/Mercury-t/Pluto represent the new technology and new thinking of this space effort?

News reports indicated that the cost of a Falcon 9 is about $60 million.  The cost of propellant is only $200,000.  Reusable sections of a space craft will dramatically lower costs and reduce ‘turn-around’ time.  All in all, this event is an important step forward.  Dave

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

Error:

Although the post of late Dec. 23, 2015 was correct in that a rocket was launched from Cape Canaveral and the booster returned to an upright landing 10 minutes later, the balance of the story was based on the wrong space vehicle company.  My apologies.  With the holidays now upon us, it may be a couple of days before I can correct this exciting story.

 

A legacy of a Broken Home; Murder

Phillip Chism, a high school freshman at his Danver’s, MA (USA) high school and soccer player came from Tennessee where he was born.  His parents had an abusive relationship with each other, both filed for divorce.  The mother and Phillip moved to Danvers, looking for a better life.  Phillip was a relatively quiet boy who liked to draw.  On Oct. 22, 2013 his teacher caught him drawing in his notebook, not taking notes, during her late afternoon Algebra class.  At class end she asked to stay.

She reiterated that he had recently moved to the area.  “Did he like his new school, his sports, his new community,” she asked.  When she did mention the place he had come from, Tennessee, he became very angry.  Another student in the room noticed this.  The teacher changed the topic of conversation, but Phillip started talking to himself.  The teacher, Coleen Ritzer (24 years old) left the room.  Phillip followed her to the door and looked down the hall.  He ducked back into the class room, pulled up the hood of his sweater, and then exited the room to the woman’s rest room.  There he assaulted Miss Ritzer, killed her, placed her body in a recycling barrel, and took her to the nearby woods where he dumped the body, rolled the barrel into a ditch, and took her panties and credit card.  He ate and went to a movie.  We will first look at a t/Moon-to-n/Sun Return chart, based on a noon birth time, prior to this event.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

Even though this is based on a noon birth chart, the angles will be within 7 degrees or so of their correct position if the actual birth time was known. This is due to the ratio of the Moon’s movement to the Sun’s daily movement.  Everyone in this region, born on that day, will have similar Moon-to-Sun Return charts with the MC close to 12 Sag.  This makes these charts a wonderful tool for astrologers working with news events.

Moon-Sun in the 12 house theme is, in part, “. . . Being in a recovery phase for one’s health.  Being isolated or working alone behind the scenes.”  One can apply other negative characteristics of a 12th house position for the Moon-Sun placement.  This being a personal “new moon” chart, it marks an impulsive phase for Phillip.  Angular placements include n/PoF-IC oppoisite n/Pluto-MC.  This natal opposition points Phillip to wanting to seize life and life-events for his own purposes.  His prior life had found him at the mercy of his parent’s battles.  t/Mars-Desc. squares n/Asc. in the 3rd house (school, learning is one of the key words for this house).   t/Sun is the focus of a T-square, squaring both t/Jupiter (19 Cancer) and n/Mercury (22 Capricorn).  This typically points to one who has many ideas, is talkative, has a strong intellect.   Also angular is t/Neptune-t/Chiron is the 1st house.  t/Chiron completes a T-Square with the before-mentioned PoF-opposition-Pluto.  The burden of Chiron’s affinity to dealing with the wounds of past trauma comes into play during this cycle.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

In the ten days from the Return chart, the MC has advanced from 12 Sag to 12 Capricorn.  This area of the zodiac is know for its fast ‘movement’ in the charts of the northern hemisphere.  So, what has changed in these 10 days?  First, and most obvious is, t/Pluto-MC has replaced n/Pluto-MC!  This a bad sign in return charts for teen agers and young adults whole charts reflect a n/Pluto whose t/Pluto has only moved a sign or so in space during their short life time.  And look, t/Chiron-Asc. is now more angular.  And t/PoF conjoins t/Sun.  This all amounts to a clear “trigger” point in this cycle.  Astrology can often be very ‘literal’ in its meanings. During the conversation between Phillip Chism and his teacher, he had said to the police interviewer that his teacher had said the “trigger” word. He would not say what that word was.  Back to t/PoF-t/Sun.  Phillips intent and self-interests are on a ‘high activity’ level at this moment.  Note that n/PoF in the Return chart opposed n/Pluto.  Here, the t/PoF brings that Return “imprint” forward and infuses the t/Sun with a wish to act.  Both opposes n/Saturn and the n/12th house position it was in.  There is a hidden burden buried in Chism’s head, perhaps the fighting between his parents is part of it.  Another curiosity that I note is an angular Venus in this chart (t/Venus at 16 Sag).  Angular Venus is often present in death charts as a symbol of life reaching a ‘balance’ point for the individual.  Here, t/Moon opposes t/Venus — does that indicate another’s death?

Part 2: Syed Farook & Eris

Syed Farook, born in Chicago, IL on July 14, 2015 and raised in San Bernadino, CA was the husband of Tashfeen Malik — together they killed 14 and wounded 21 people at a health care center where Syed worked as an inspector.  A noon chart, for Chicago, relocated to CA, is the basis for this t/Moon-to-n/Sun Return and Advanced chart for this tragic shooting.

Eris, symbol of the Woman Warrior seeking to bring justice and truth to a bad situation, plays a significant role in his charts.  First, we will look at his t/Moon-to-n/Sun Return and natal chart.

Farook’s natal chart is in the outer wheel.  n/Chiron-n/10th-opp-n/Uranus indicates a deep identification with being placed in an awkward life situation.  n/Moon-opposite=n/Asc indicates a feeling that relating with others is a deep-seated need.  How he wants to act and feel, and how he perceives his place in the world is at odds within him.  n/Sun at Cancer 21 makes him sensitive — this n/Sun is at the midpoint of n/Mars-n/Mercury, suggesting angry thoughts and suspicions about how others react to him.  Note n/MC-opposite-n/Saturn; limitations and a hard life in the home during childhood (actual).  n/Moon in a last-quarter square to n/Saturn tells us that he would find a way to set his own course in life as an adult.

Let us look at the Return chart for Nov. 29, 2015, three days before the mass shooting.  t/Pluto-IC square t/Uranus-Desc.  Sudden, brutal action will change his life and affect the lives of others.  The generic theme for t/Moon-n/Sun in the 10th is leading the way, becoming an icon for a program, involvement with health workers, being in a dangerous or target position.  This is appropriate.  Note t/Mars-Asc.; taking action, being angry.  This t/Mars squares n/Mercury which is part of the Sun=Mercury/Mars natal midpoint structure.  n/Neptune, his private vision and personal drama, is all wrapped up in these angry thoughts and feelings.  Finally, we take note of the Desc. angle very close to n/Eris:  looking for a way to express the ‘Vengeful Warrior’ to deal with injustice and a lack of truth which is seen all around him.

Let us now look at the Advanced chart for the day of the shooting.

n/Eris, at 16:39 Aries, is on the Desc. angle.  Tashfeen Malik, his wife, seems to play this role of making his vision and perception of being rejected by others come to full expression.  Thru her, and with her, he will make his views on how others treat him known to all.  t/PoF links to n/Mercury-n/Neptune, n/N.Node and t/Mars.  Changes will be initiated to deal with the distorted views he has of how others relate to him.

t/Saturn-t/Sun are approaching the n/IC angle, it is time to rectify and redefine his intent, integrity and goal of proving his personal values. These two, t/Saturn-t/Sun, square the n/Asc-opp-n/Moon pattern and seek to firmly express his desire to unite with others.  In this case, the “others” were not his co-workers or his community, but an ideal group diaspora or radicals that flourish on the other side of the world.

Part 1: Mass Shootings in San Bernadino, CA

 On December 2nd, 2015, a husband and wife attended a holiday luncheon where the husband worked.  They brought weapons and commenced a shooting spree that resulted in 14 deaths and 21 wounded.  After firing their weapons for a few minutes, they fled the scene without being identified.  It is believed that they planned on further shootings at other sites.  The wife, Tashfeen Malik, recently came to the U.S. to marry Syed Rizwan Farook, a Chicago, IL native who had relocated to California with his family.  Tashfeen was a citizen of Pakistan.  Her chart will be examined first because it is now believed that she was the primary force behind the radicalization of this Muslim couple that led to their shooting of co-workers at a facility that helped disabled people cope with their injuries and problems.

A t/Moon-opposite-n/Mars Return will be utilized for this chart review.

Note:  A ‘noon’ chart was cast for t/Moon-opposite-n/Mars and was then relocated to San Bernadino, CA.  This accounts for the n/Sun being in the 4th house relative to the n/MC (outside wheel) — Pakistan is half-way around the world from California.  The birth dates were released by the local Police Department.  Natal Eris, not shown, is located at 16:39 Aries, square n/Mars.  Eris represents the Woman Warrior fighting for truth. This position plays an important role in the events of Dec. 2, 2015.  This t/Moon-opp-n/Mars Return occurred on Nov. 29, 2015, three days prior to the shooting.   Note that t/Uranus conjoins the n/Eris position and squares n/Mars.  Further t/Uranus is the focus of a T-square involving t/Moon-opposite-t/Pluto-n/Mars; a sudden exhibition of willfulness will be fueled by angry emotions.  This T-square is not angular, but it is the defining basis for t/Moon-opposite-n/Mars chart; a chart that addresses the emotional use of anger and action.

Angular components of the chart include n/Chiron-Asc. opposite n/Uranus.  This, in effect, doubles-up the Uranus symbolism,  reflecting the seemingly sudden and shocking actions taken.  What is initially more difficult to understand is n/Venus-IC.  We have to remember that Venus is a balancing function, among other attributes.  This mass-shooting spree is intended to bring balance, in the eyes of this woman, to injustices or wrongs that she had endured or perceived.  We can alson note that Malik was experiencing a Saturn Return.  At 29 years of age, this Saturn Return period is common to us all.   Here, t/Sun-conjoins-Saturn-Saturn.  Her intent is to acknowledge the responsibilities she has been given.  The MC of this chart will be accurate within a few degrees of position, just as is a MC position for t/Moon-to-n/Sun.  With t/Neptune at the MC, a sense of idealism defines her present life.

The date of the shooting was Dec. 2, 2015.  The Advanced chart is shown below.

In this Advanced t/Moon-opp-n/Mars Return chart, the MC is closer to t/Neptune and opposes n/Venus, squares t/Saturn-n/Saturn.  The dream is to balance out life’s inequities, deal with one’s greater responsibilities.  Note t/Sun squaring the MC-t/Neptune.  Malik’s intent (Sun) is to step up and represent the rigid views she has identified with.  We might also consider t/Mercury-n/Uranus near the Desc. as an angular influence.  Do we associate this with cutting words uttered by others?  Or, a sudden perception of what others are saying about her, her family, her faith?  Did she feel uncomfortable in her recent move to the U.S.?

Due to this chart being based on a ‘noon’ chart that has been relocated half way around the world, I have not addressed the n/PoF or t/PoF.  Yet, these suggest that her actions and her ideals will bring confrontational changes into her life.

Politics 2016, part 2: Hillary Clinton

Hillary Clinton, wife of former President Bill Clinton, is the current leader in the Democratic Primary race.  She is expected to be her party’s nominee.  Her Moon-to-Sun Return and Advanced chart for the Nov. 8, 2015 national election will be examined.  Also, the election day chart will be compared to the heavily researched Howland Independence chart for July 4, 1776 at 10:59 AM, Philadelphia.

This t/Moon-to-n/Sun Return in the first house chart is for Oct. 30, 2016, calculated for 5:38:02 AM.  The first house generic theme is “Self interests and emotions lead to taking action.  Ambition is exhibited.  Personal appearance can be changed.  Recognition or acclaim is likely in this period.”  This is auspicious for an election.  Added to the power of this placement is t/Sun-t/Mercury very close to the n/Sun; Hillary’s ability to shine and communicate will be very strong.  t/PoF is above, and will cross the Asc. angle on this date, bringing personal change into her immediate life.  This t/PoF conjoins n/Neptune; the dream, the fairy tale is activated for better or worse.  This can denote excitement or great disappointment.  With t/Jupiter conjoining t/PoF-n/Neptune, this pattern is weighted toward good fortune, success.

Other angular considerations are t/Pluto-t/Mars-IC; This pattern is often associated with upsetting the apple cart, in other words, an upset, changing an outcome from the expected to something different.  This might suggest a close political battle.  If the race is not close, this could indicate other serious expressions such as an assassination attempt or extreme character attack.  With t/Chiron-n/MC, we might consider some ‘career-illness’ (a political claim of mis-doing) to be part of this attack, a last minute attempt to disrupt a win.   t/Uranus-Desc. certainly supports this possibility.  The natal Moon-square-Uranus (n/10th to n/12th houses) points to Hillary’s life-long experience with hidden surprises always occurring.  Let’s look at Hillary’s election day Advanced chart.

The angles of this chart have moved in the 9 days since the Return chart.  t/Uranus-Desc. is quite precise; this is the day of change caused by the electorate.  t/PoF has moved to conjoin t/Mars-IC; a strong presence and life-change occurs.   These are the angular planets.  We can also look to the natal angles where we find t/Chiron-MC and t/Pluto-opp-n/Asc.  The political dirty tricks, “tarring and feathering” someone with political rumor and fake stories continues.  Other’s take extreme actions to derail her election.  My opinion is that the Republicans, after fighting against the former Democratic President for eight years are desperate to prevent further loss of the White House.  

Now is the time to compare Hillary’s chart to the national Howland chart.

Clinton has several connections to this chart.  h/Pluto-t/IC-t/Mars-t/PoF is one strong combination that suggests her political message is one of revolution, of change in policies.  (Does this tie in with a retaking of one of the congressional houses?)

A most auspicious contact is h/Moon-t/Moon; Hillary clicks with the public mood of this election day.  (is this another indication of a last-minute win?)   Hillary’s n/Moon conjoins the h/Desc. angle; she can connect with the populace.  The h/Chiron is on this Advanced chart’s Desc. angle; the public sees her as being able to fix the nation’s troubles. And, to top off the connection list, h/Sun conjoins n/Asc.; Hillary expresses the national intent and interests.

Comparison of Hillary to Trump.  If these two are the contenders, then Hillary’s chart is stronger in terms of expressing the national mood at the time of the election.  There are suggestions of great strife and word-games from the opposition party.

In future posts we will look at other candidates and their charts, seeking to get a feel for what 2016 will bring.
