Moon Over Canaveral & Buzz Aldrin

Buzz Aldrin and Neil Armstrong are known by most of the United States adults and school children as the first men to walk on the Moon. We need to take a break from politics and the Health Care issue, so, with the Space Shuttles being carried around the country to be placed in museums, it seemed to be a good time to look at one of the hero’s of 1969.

Rather than start with his natal chart, Aldrin’s 1969 Solar Return will launch our short review.  This return chart will be located for Cape Canaveral, taking place on the 21st of January, 1969 — the day after his 39th birthday.

The most obvious feature of this chart is that the MC and Asc. angles of the Solar Return match the natal angles!  This happens at the 39th birthday with Sidereal and with precession corrected Tropical Solar Return charts (as is shown here) unless the subject relocates in terms of longitude.   In this case his birth location (Montclair, NJ) at 074w13 is not sufficiently different from Cape Canaveral at 080w36, yielding a difference of only 11 minutes of arc.

As has been stated before, whenever the natal angles match up with the Solar Return chart’s angles a significant year is likely to be experienced.  With that in mind, this chart has several clues as to what awaits.  t/Mars is near the IC angle: One will actively pursue a new venture, cover new ground.  t/Mercury is near the Descendant:  There is likely to be travel, planning and communications with others.  These two planets are the sole angular features other than the natal angles coincidental with the return chart’s angles.

Our other clues include the Asc./MC midpoint at 2 Cancer opposite natal Saturn at 1 Capricorn:  Aldrin’s self-discipline and training is at the heart of his present experiences — meaning that his career as an Astronaut will be at the heart of his activities this year.   Of course, the very nature of planning an expedition of this nature means that (at the time of this chart) the program had long since been underway.  There would have been no need to advise Mr. Aldrin of this, as an astrologer.  But it does show us that these charts have significance.

As for the subject of the 39th year and the return of the solar return angles to the natal angles, a comment is in order.  Numerous examples are in my files relative to the 39th year Solar Returns of individuals in which either positive or negative events have shaped their lives.  Examples include:  Martin Luther King (assassination), John Denver (divorce), Che-Guevara (guerrilla, executed), Prince Charles (escaped from an avalanche), Dylan Thomas (Welsh poet and writer died two days after his return).

Tropical Solar Returns return to near their natal angles in the 23rd year.  Those interested could check if there was a similar life-altering event in those years similar to the 39th year for Sidereal and adjusted Tropical return charts.  Dave

Justice Breyer and Health Care

In this post I’ll briefly look at Associate Justice Stephen Breyer’s natal chart (relocated to D.C.) and compared to the Health Care Act (Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act).  In the prior post a prediction was offered relative to the date of the Supreme Court’s public decision on the hearings that started on March 26, 2012.  Each of the Justices posed questions to both sides arguing before the court, each had their own impressions of the answers and the issues being argued.  As was done earlier, we can compare Breyer’s chart with that of the Health Care Act signing chart.

The “Signing Chart” was notable for the Grand Square pattern it held:  Moon/Asc. opposite Pluto, both square Sun in the 10th and Saturn in the 4th.  In Breyer’s chart, below, we see the Health Care Act Moon/Asc in Breyer’s 9th, Pluto in the 3rd, Sun at the 6th house cusp, and Saturn at the 12th house cusp.

Breyer’s relocated natal chart is inside, the Health Care Act is located at the outer wheel. Breyer’s Sun (9th) squares the nodal axis and Uranus at the S.Node.  This Sun widely opposes Breyer’s own Jupiter and the Health Care Neptune.  Breyer’s Sun, his sense of self, identity, principles and attitude is aware of the social implications of Jupiter.  The health care Neptune, semi-square Mercury at 10 Aries, opposes Breyer’s Sun; he finds the ideals, the nature of the Pharmaceutical industry, and the covert interplay between hidden interests.

The primary interact between Breyer and the Health Care Act seems associated with the natal Moon-Saturn pattern conjoining the Health Care Act’s Mercury and Venus in his 6th house.  Breyer’s Moon is just behind (in phase angle terms) Saturn — he is sensitive to the need for change in system-structures, bureaucracy and controls to suite the current time and social situations.  Health Care Mercury will relate to the news, polls, agents and stories that circulate throughout society.  Venus, close by, brings an ability to balance and harmonize his exposure to social issues with the laws and people’s needs that are such a big part of today’s life.  Breyer’s own Venus conjoins the H.C. Act’s Saturn (complex system, infrastructure governing widely different suppliers and users).  He can be said to have a good grasp of the issues.

I see this chart as indicating Breyer’s very wide range of real social issues with the need for changes in structures and laws that govern the role of Health Care is society.  All of this is not to say that he will support maintaining the law as it is, but that he will have a good grasp of the issues as the Justices sort out what needs to be done and how to do it.  The Grand Square of the health care chart doesn’t tie in with Breyer’s chart very strongly.  He will be quite objective in this appeal process, as I see it.  Dave

Predicting the Supreme Court’s decision !

The U.S. Supreme Court will reveal its decisions on the Patient Protection & Affordability Care Act on June 19, 2012.  This date will be announced two days earlier.  On March 26, 2012 the Court started a three-day schedule of hearings on this health care act.  The charts for the signing of the act, the second Solar Return, and the start of the hearings have all been posted previously on this site.  Sources stated that the Court would probably reveal its findings in June, 2012.

This announcement provided an opportunity to engage in the process of predicting what date would mark the Supreme Court’s decision(s), something that has not been done with the review of charts relating to public figures. Dates for June, July and early August were reviewed using the MC-Solar Cycle methods long advocated on this blog site.  June 19th stood out strongly from other dates.  A progressed daily angles charts for the Health Care Act (inner wheel) and the progressed angles and daily transits (outer wheel) is shown below.  These charts are produced using Juan Revilla’s RIYAL software which is described for downloading, configuration and usage in another portion of this blog site.  A prefix of “s/Planet” will denote the signing dates planet position, transiting planets and progressed angles will not have a prefix.

Of immediate note are the angles of the chart.  MC at 5:47 Cap. conjoins s/Pluto at 5:22 Cap within 25′ of arc and the Asc. at 10:32 Aries conjoins s/Mercury at 11:59 Aries. MC@ s/Pluto has a book description (in part); separating, divisive, binding totally changing situations.”  Adapting this for a court finding we could say the relationships between politics, insurance, medical and money interests within the health care act would be addressed in terms of its status (MC) as a fundamentally society-changing force in the U.S. The Ascendant conjoining s/Mercury will represent the announcement of the Court’s findings.  Two days earlier, this progressing Ascendant passed over s/Uranus, probably symbolizing the announcement that the Court would reveal its findings.

The MC also opposed the s/Moon at 5:34 Cancer and s/Asc. at 3:49 Cancer.  MC opposite s/Moon represents feeling imposed upon about what is of value, meeting a necessity with a solution.  MC at s/Desc. suggests goals and support are acknowledged, and the contending issues are noted while the situation requires some change.

On the first day of the March hearings the daily MC was at 21 Virgo — this point will be conjoined June 19th by transiting Mars.  Mars represents the “arguments before the court” (what other form could Mars take if not heated discussions within a court setting?) and the contention of views among the Justices as the hammer out their views over legalities, interests, precedent set by other decisions.

Finally, in terms of angular activity, the Co-Descendant (CD Point) of this daily chart is a 0 Libra, opposite the s/Sun at 2 Aries. The CD Point is at an angular arc from the MC that is equal to the Asc.-to-MC arc.  Planets at or opposite this point construe a midpoint structure between the Asc. and CD wherein the MC has to mediate or adjust its goals and image relative to self interests and the interests of others.  The s/Sun opposite the CD represents a defending or shielding effect, resisting any changes to the core of the health care act.

The above statements all relate to the angles of this chart, the angles representing positions of power for planets there to express themselves.  The angles, of course, convey their own unique meanings as well.  These angular zones have included the Sun, Moon, Mercury and Pluto directly.  We can now play astrological hopscotch and jump around to the other signing or transiting versions of those planets to develop some supporting views and understandings.

Transiting Sun conjoins transiting Moon in the 12th house side of the daily Ascendant.  This suggests the public policy (the Health Care Act) and the interests of the people will not be addressed at this time.  Could this indicate a split finding in which some aspects of health care will be put off until later when the “mandate” goes into effect?  The signing chart’s Moon position relative to the Sun was in an opening square phase, suggesting a struggle against what was set up earlier.  As this transiting Moon moves into a new-Moon phase we can expect a preparation period first before a new beginning.  Keep this in mind.

Transiting Mercury in the daily chart’s fourth house squares t/Saturn and s/Venus while conjoining the t/South Node.  The detailed wording of the Health Care Act will somehow be tied into past precedents of other laws (Interstate Commerce?) which may result in problems of how those laws will balance (Venus) with the Court’s current findings. Interstate Commerce is seen as being linked to the Health Care “Mandate.”  Can one be forced to purchase a product or service that one does not need (now) or want (for later)?  Perhaps this should be seen relative to the Act’s authority (Sun) to compel this (CD point).  Saturn could be seen as symbolizing a “mandate” or a requirement/rule over something.  We have s/Saturn opposing s/Sun — while here we have t/Sun trine to t/Saturn within  air signs (social concepts) while also in trine relationship to s/Neptune (medicine, visionary ideals).

From all of this a significant compromise in details of the legislation for health care will be changed so that the mandate portion of the act can be upheld.  Narrow exceptions are likely to be defined based on substitutions of other services or provisions for care (self-denial of future medical treatment) except in a most-limited emergency form.  Health care will be changed but not eliminated, the two years of forward progress will continue, its path may be altered, its content adjusted, its core ideas upheld.

Justice Scalia & the Health Care Act

Antonin Scalia is noted as a conservative Justice and some feel that he will not be receptive to any positive outcome for the Health Care Act that was brought before the Supreme Court.  However, his chart paints a somewhat different picture.  The chart below has Scalia’s chart inside, the Health Care Act in the outside ring.

Scalia’s chart (inside) is one of those charts where it is difficult to pick a starting point.  His Sun squares Jupiter, 5th to 2nd: An expressive nature with a degree of sensitivity who loves to work with ideas and challenges, always seeking a productive result.  Pluto in the 9th points to one who digs for the underlying basis of any issue.  If we put these two together (Sun-Jupiter and Pluto) with Mars in the 6th which suggests motivation and one who separates complexity into its basic components we start to see a picture of a jig-saw puzzle addict.

Now, add in the lone opposition in the chart, Saturn (loosely conjoined to the Sun) opposite Neptune:  one who struggles over the conflicts of idealism versus materialism, one who is caring but also understands the need for sacrifice.  We’ll talk about this Saturn conjoining the Health Care Act’s MC later.  Scalia’s Mars is inconjucting Neptune, semi-sextile Saturn:  Part of Scalia’s agony over idealism versus materialism is due to this Mars; how can he act, how should he act?  In his case, “action” is translated into words, arguments, positions that are offered and defended.  Passion is difficult to direct — Neptune can’t be easily pushed, Saturn doesn’t want to be pushed.  We can note that Mars = Mercury/Venus.  This midpoint structure suggests practicality, finding a balance of ideas the leads to a solution.

Now that we have an understanding of Antonin Scalia’s chart we can look to see how it fits with the Health Care Act chart, shown in the outer ring of the chart.

We find that Scalia’s Saturn-opposite-Neptune is at the Health Care Act’s MC point:  The Act itself is a nightmare for Scalia, activating the idealism-materialism component of his inner self.  Saturn conjoins the Health Care Act’s Jupiter; Scalia will likely see the Act as being too broad and generous over how its structure can regulate and control all it promises.  We can expect to see some pruning and narrowing of many of the Act’s provisions as a means of bring clarity and focus to its structure.

Interesting is the Health Care Acts grand square (Sun/10th opposite Saturn, square Pluto opposite Moon/Ascendant) which is not directly tied into Scalia’s chart!   Except for the MC conjoining Scalia’s Saturn-opposite-Neptune pattern.  I would see this as Scalia approaching this issue in a fully objective manner with no preconceived views, applying his acute judgement to the actual legalities of the Act such as the mandate, limitations or high excesses of provisions.  In summary, I see Scalia as being a referee for others on the court, insisting on a core of legal basics for the act and new definitions for the Commerce portions of the Act.    Dave

Justice Kennedy & Health Care Act

One interesting astrological method for finding an answer is to compare two charts to see how one interacts with the other.  We can experiment with this “most-basic” approach to seeking astrological answers by comparing the chart of the Health Care Act with the chart of Associate Justice Anthony Kennedy.

This is most interesting!  The most obvious pattern is both very simple and very complex.  The Health Care Act chart is shown in the outer wheel, Justice Kennedy is represented by the inner natal chart which has been relocated to Washington, D.C.

hc/SUN is in Kennedy’s 2nd house:  The Health Care Act as public policy is in the nation’s house of values, wealth and assets, economic issues and earnings.  This can be related to the “mandate” wherein the people must support the Health Care Act as a matter of willing and unwilling participation.

The hc/Sun forms a grand-cross which includes Kennedy’s own natal Moon:  This grand-cross has Sun opposite Saturn (and Kennedy’s Moon), square hc/Pluto (and Kennedy’s North Node), and square hc/Moon and Ascendant.  The Health Care Act “authority” (Sun) contends with innumerable rules and legal structures (Saturn) which are further conflicted (square aspects) by political factions and big business (Pluto) and the public’s feelings and needs (Moon, Asc.). It would appear that Kennedy’s view of the public need (n/Moon) for shared health care security (Moon is in the 8th house of contracts for how one’s money is managed) and how (the square) those shared resources will impact and be impacted by the interests of big business and the health care industry (Pluto).  Politics will have an influence in this Supreme Court decision — it all comes down to the people versus the corporate/political world.  These two factors have to be reconciled.

The easy way out, astrologically, is often found within trine relationships.  Trines are said to convey an “ease” — what I have found is that trine aspects often let the two relationship factors alternate between one and then the other being allowed to function.  This oscillation tends to negate any real or quick solution or function. Here the health care Sun trines Kennedy’s Sun suggesting that his views of the legal review process will involve him seeing both the public value and the personal value of the legislation.

Kennedy’s Uranus trines the hc/Pluto:  Kennedy will explore unique interpretations on how to frame the Health Care Act within the politics of the government, the lobbyists, the health care industry’s capabilities to work within the act.  We might interpret this as offering surgical statements that cut out some details of the act, hiding other details (thru delays) or influencing the other Justices in their findings.  If we note the hc/Uranus and it’s trine to Kennedy’s Pluto (2nd to 7th) and conjoining with Kennedy’s Saturn (in the 2nd) we might suspect a bargaining approach to the many issues that will be raised in the review by the Supreme Court.  In other words, the final ruling may be a mix of bargaining chips instead of a cohesive set of views and rulings.  Will the final ruling be as convoluted as the Health Care Act itself?  Dave.

PS: We will experiment with another Justice’s chart to see what we can find.  If anyone has comments on the crazy commentary, please do drop a line.

The Supreme Court holds a secret vote

On Friday, March 30, 2012, it was reported that the Supreme Court Justices held their first review of the hearings held earlier in the week and conducted a “trial” vote to see what the initial sense of the court was and which issues seemed to be most acute to the ruling that they were expected to make in June.  We can look at a progressed daily angles chart for this date which is similar but different from the chart earlier in the week.  In a following post we can look at a chart for Associate Justice Anthony Kennedy who may be a “swing vote” should the court’s findings be a 5-to-4 finding.

Three factors are acute in this chart:  t/Moon at the signing-chart’s Ascendant (3 Cancer) conjoining n/Moon, the daily chart’s Ascendant conjoining N.Node (8-9 Sag), and t/Sun’s approach to the signing-chart’s Mercury.

t/Sun at signing/Mercury:  An examination of the Health Care Act’s wording as well as it’s proponent’s-and-opponent’s arguments before the court, in the daily chart’s 4th house.  The fundamentals are being reviewed and discussed.

t/Asc. conjoining t/N.Node:  This close but now separating aspect suggests that the public’s interest will wane as the court’s work goes being-the-scenes for several weeks.

t/Moon conjoining signing Asc. & Moon:  It would appear that the public’s needs and supportive nature of the Health Care Act was the focus of the Justice’s conversations.  This would be in the 7th house area of the daily chart; the needs of others being indicated.  This, in itself, is encouraging in terms of framing the discussions that will follow.

We will not be able to compare and charting and conjecture to any “news” from the court as everything will be away from the public view.  Instead, I will lay out a time-line of likely dates for the court’s ruling and the nature of the ruling.  Also, I may review Justice Kennedy’s chart and daily charts relative to possible court ruling dates to see what we might find.  Meanwhile, other topics will be presented so as to keep the mix of chart assessments interesting to all of my blog visitors.  Dave.
