When a Solar Return Seems to Contradict Reality . . .

Newt Gingrich experienced a Solar Return on June 17th.  This Solar Return initially strikes one as being very positive, yet the events of recent days seem to contradict the chart.  When we find inconsistencies between charts and life, we have a unique chance to learn more about astrology and how it relates to life.

This Solar Return is located for Washington, D.C. where Gingrich has experienced the bulk of his political career.  The chart is oriented relative to its natal angles (inner chart).  The Solar Return dates transiting planets are in the outer wheel along with the Solar Return Ascendant and MC positions.  The S/R MC is at 25 Gemini (on the natal 3rd house cusp), the S/R Ascendant is at 26 Virgo (in the natal 6th house).  The following observations can be made:

Solar Return Sun conjoins the S/R MC:  “An opportunity to achieve recognition, gain fame, or become a leader.  Positioned to sieze a big opportunity or be placed into public view.”  This statement is taken from my upcomming book.  Many astrologers would see “Sun at the MC” as representing fame and leadership.  Note my use of “opportunity” in place of “representing.”  Newt’s opportunity is his running for his Republican Party’s nomination for President. 

Transiting Mercury is close by the S/R MC and opposite transiting Pluto:  The message and public contact of his public stance is subject to transformation and upheaval due to others (opposition aspect) over fundamental issues (IC angle). 

Solar Return Ascendant conjoins natal Neptune:  Before we assess this contact, note that natal Neptune closely trines natal Mercury; Newt’s rhetoric always combines idealism, vision and ambiguity.  Those attributes carry over into the Solar Return chart.  Idealism and confusion may come in equal parts.  This mix cannot often be good.  We need to also note a wide opposition to transiting Uranus near the S/R Descendant:  Surprises are associated with “others”, and these surprises are likely to be self-generating in their nature–one leading to the next.  While on the subject of one surprise leading to another surprise, look to transiting Neptune at 29 Aquarius trining the Solar Return MC and Sun!  Neptune is running away with the situation.  We can expect continuing drama and confusing twists as Gingrich, in turn, attempts to twist the facts of his ongoing efforts to match his sense of reality.  We will be watching a personally tragic story in the coming weeks.   It seems hard to imaging at this point that his campaign will continue in any serious form.

Exit, stage left holding head in hands

On June 9th, 2011, Newt Gingrich’s disastrous Presidential Nomination campaign took a nosedive into a deep, dark hole.  His campaign staff walked out on him.  This post will introduce a new charting format.  Software is now available as a free download which will enable readers of this blog to easily produce their own charts within this MC-Solar Cycle methodology.

Progressed Daily Angles chart for June 9, 2011, set for Washington, DC.  Inner wheel is the natal chart, the outer chart is the transits for this date with the progressed MC and Ascendant shown where they are positioned relative to the natal chart.  MC is a 15 Gemini in the natal 2nd house, Asc. is at 17 Virgo in the 5th house area.

Newt’s staff appears to have disliked the heavy, non-professional control that his wife was exercising in the planning and runing of the campaign.  They decided to leave so that they could possibly link up with a more-serious candidate who needed their services. 

In this daily chart there are a couple of striking factors:

Transiting Mercury/Sun closely bracket the daily MC.  The planning and talking (that is what politics is) is the primary focus of the campaign strategy and visibility before the public.  Playing astrological hopscotch, we look at natal Mercury in the natal 1st house conjunct Uranus and opposite natal Moon in the 8th house of unequal sharing and we can see that Newt’s ideas and ispiration has to deal with the influence of a women who exerts, or seeks to exert, too much influence over him.  We have to keep in mind that just before this upsetting event that they both took a two week cruise to the Greek islands at the wife’s insistence. 

Transiting Moon is in the daily chart’s first house, having just crossed the Ascendant.  Changes, emotions, public reaction.  These tie into the natal pattern at the MC angle (noted above).  The general square of transiting Sun-Moon adds to the contention between the parties involved.  Moon also squares the nodal axis of how one handles associates—not so very well, it seems.

So, on and around this date we have MC, Ascendant, Sun, Mercury, Moon and nodal axis involved.  All highly personal factors involved in conjunction-square-oppositional patterns.  High levels of personal stress, conflict and individually focused (narrow views) for the detriment of the whole (team effort).  What more needs to be said if we were the consulting astrologer and knew of the inside context of Newt Gingrich’s life and efforts at this time?
