Enough is Enough! Lance Armstrong Part Three

On August 24, 2012 an announcement was made that Lance would be stripped of his medals and records — a life of difficult achievement tossed on the scrap heap. All based on events, records, accusations that were more than a decade ago and which were dismissed then.  Poisoned thoughts and meanness are very persistent. We will continue the examination of the incident using Moon-to-Sun Return charts, a method of using cyclic charts to follow day-by-day events and happenings in a subjects life.

A reminder of just what a Moon-to-Sun Return chart is and how it differs from a conventional Lunar Return chart.  A Lunar Return occurs when the transiting Moon comes to the same position as the natal Moon.  Current changes in life and our response to them triggers our natal manner of dealing with change — an emotional reunion of sorts.  The Lunar Return plots the month’s responses to current events relative to how our natal chart has demonstrated its developed way of dealing with change.   A Moon-to-Sun Return portrays how current-happening events and situations impact our basic natal nature (Sun), our decision-making processes, our way of acting and managing life.  We are looking at  how “change” is experienced and dealt with.  The other transits work with/against the transiting Moon and bring new approaches to how the natal chart is challenged on many levels.

There are a number of remarkable factors in this chart, this date that has turned Lance Armstrong’s life upside down.  FIRST, we note the natal MC and Ascendant (in the outer ring) are closely matched to the Return chart’s (inner wheel) angles.  This always indicates a total change in one’s life, a sort of rebirth event.  Clearly this is the case here.  Second, t/Sun at 2 Virgo  opposes t/Neptune — one’s self interests are contested by Neptunian symbols such as drugs, deception, illusion, etc. This is what his accusers are doing.  Third, t/Part of Fortune (t/PoF) conjoins t/Uranus; “chance and change” will occur suddenly.  Fourth, t/Moon opposes n/Saturn; today’s changes have to contend with the past disciplines that Lance has engaged in –this is one way of using these symbols.  If we look at t/Saturn’s position we find it near the Return chart’s MC.  We can blend these two Saturn positions/symbols and see that the changes affecting his disciplined lifetime will be associated with his career and public stature.  Another, final point, might be n/Neptune and n/Jupiter conjoining the t/Node; the charity work (Jupiter/Neptune) associations may be affected by this career battle.

As I have noted before, this form of Return chart appears to be quite superior to Lunar Returns.  In the next few days I will look for a nice example of using conventional Lunar Returns and, perhaps, a progressing method such as that proposed by Robert Nicewander.  We’ll see what develops.  Dave

Anticipating Life’s Difficulties — Lance Armstrong Part Two

Lance Armstrong has long been badgered over “doping” related to his phenomenal career in competitive cycling.  Decades ago those claims were made and discounted, yet they kept being raised. The legal, money and emotional toil was building for Lance. Knowing that the latest barrage was coming, Lance had to be considering his plans for his career and charities.  The following chart is a precession-corrected Moon-to-Sun Return chart.  First, we need to recognize that Lance Armstrong’s actual birth time is not published. The time of 2:45 PM is used for this chart.

Moon-to-Sun charts are not overly affected by uncertain birth times! Consider the ratio of Sun versus Moon movement.  In a day, the Sun moves one degree, the Moon twelve degrees.  If we pick a noon birth time, the Sun is within a half-degree of being accurate.  The transiting Moon will “time” the Return chart within an hour (equalling a half-degree of Moon motion) of whatever the actual birth time was. The Return chart will be relatively accurate.

The first step in interpreting these Moon-to-Sun Return charts is to assess the house position of the t/Moon-to-n/Sun — the 9th house in this case. Note the chart’s distorted presentation so that all of the upper planets can be shown in their sequential order.  Pay attention to the Sign and degree placements. The 9th house placement suggests a “theme”: “Contact with or visiting distant places as a teacher, student, representative, or for business purposes, or the exchange of materials or ideas.”  If we place this “cookbook” meaning into the context of Armstrong’s life we can see that the doping arbitration dealt with “distant places (Europe, mostly)” as a representative of the U.S.A.  in a sports-business situation.  The possible end result affected his reputation, career and medals.”

As a theme, this Return chart covers the next two weeks following Aug. 19th, 2012.  Note that the natal angles have “returned” to the Return chart angles — in any cyclic chart, an angular match up of this type will alert us to a likely rebirth or significant life change!  The announcing of the U.S. doping arbitrator finding him guilty of charges proven to be false some decade or more ago is hard to believe.  It does jeopardize much of his career reputation and accomplishments.

t/Sun (8th) opposes t/Neptune; Lances best-interests are subject to being distorted by others.  t/Part of Fortune (t/PoF) squares t/Mars in the 10th house; He will be professional attacked and it will affect finances (2nd house).  t/Moon squares n/PoF; Change and emotional responses will be set of by the symbol for “chance and change” — the PoF.

For an assessment, the above is all we need to note relative to a cyclic chart. Anything else that we could pull out of the chart is merely “detail.”  That is the beauty of cyclic charts — they continue to portray the flow of events against the flow of time.  We merely have to follow their development on a day by day basis and relate it to the context of the subject’s life.  The next post will look at August 23rd when the announcement was made.  Dave

A Life Turned Upside Down — Lance Armstrong part One

On August 23, 2012 there was an announcement by a doping agency acting as an arbitrator that Lance Armstrong that he was guilty of enhancing his cycling performance.  This was a direct threat to Armstrong’s reputation, records, and many charity groups he heads up, as well as the many corporate sponsors of his work.  The findings were addressing issues of some 14 years ago — and Armstrong had been cleared of all those allegations.  Armstrong claimed that he had reached a point of being worn out by the prolonged witch hunt and walked out of the arbitration process.  At stake is his entire life’s work and reputation.  His natal chart is shown below.  There is no given birth time on record.  I have assigned a time of 2:45 PM, giving him a Capricorn Ascendant.

The Capricorn Asc. provides self-control, seriousness of purpose, steadfastness.  Sun & Moon in the 9th provides a focus for his personal balance, pointing him to foreign places and experiences . . . this typical statement is better seen as one who wants greater exposure to a wider perspective than what is provided by staying close to one’s roots.  Jupiter on the Asc. brings a confidence and wish to socially enlarge his experience and place in life.  Mars trine Uranus suggests a great deal of energy can be applied to his self-confidence search for individualism.  (Note that Uranus @ 12 Libra is actually in the 9th house. The chart depiction has to be distorted in order to show the planets in their actual positional sequence).

In the next post, to follow shortly, I will explore a Moon-to-Sun Return chart and advanced chart, perhaps also a Progressed Daily Angles chart, for this situation.  Dave

Paul Ryan; Can The Tail Wag The Dog?

On August 11th, 2012 Congressman Paul Ryan was announced as Mitt Romney’s selection to be his VP nominee for the Republican Party’s slate against Barrack Obama and Joe Biden in the November election.  Ryan is identified with the Tea Party group in Congress and, most of all, with the multi-proposed Ryan Tax Plans.   Most significant in his plans is the reduction of social spending programs (Medicare, Education, Food Stamps, Unemployment Benefits), the maintenance or expansion of Defense spending, and the shifting of the tax programs to favor the wealthy while burdening the poor and middle class.  All of this has “defined” Romney in a manner which Romney had not succeeded in doing well prior to this date.  As the past week has moved forward, there has been much shifting of “definition” relative to whose tax plan is Romney’s tax plan, what it contains in detail (if anything), and how it can be presented to the voters.  The campaign rhetoric has never been well-defined in terms of “jobs” and “managing the economy.”  Now, the campaign has moved away from the Republican’s  intended focus again, debating taxes and Medicare.  We will now look at Ryan’s Moon-to-Sun Return as it is “advanced” to August 11th.

Transiting Part of Fortune (t/PoF) is in the 11th, conjoining n/Sun and n/Venus; Ryan will find that “chance and change” (PoF meaning) will find him basking in the spotlight (Sun and Venus).  This day’s Asc. broadly opposes t/Mars and t/Saturn; Harsh attacks on others.  As this oppositional pattern is not very tight on this date we might see this as being “introductory and pro-forma” in nature, as it was for a new VP Nominee who had not yet come up to speed with his senior partner.

Transiting Moon is always a significant trigger in “advanced” Return charts.  Here we find t/Moon square n/MC at 17 Virgo and t/Node at 13 Pisces;  Ryan will depend upon his established credentials (tax hawk) to reach out to others (N. Node).

t/Pluto is at the MC;  “transformation” is the order of the day.  We can see this change for Paul Ryan as a total change of his role-in-life or as a signal that he wants to totally disrupt the direction of the political process.  This t/Pluto & MC is opposed by t/Venus; he will attempt to put a charming face on his attack status for the campaign.

Back to t/Mars and t/Saturn (inner chart wheel) and n/Moon (outer chart wheel);  Ryan’s sharp and fact-based demeanor will try to appeal to the public as well as be subject to mood swings and variances in its message.  We have to remember that any astrological symbol will try to express itself in as many was as possible within the context of the subject’s life!  So, n/Moon represents his need for contact and support as well as the changes and variability of the sharp messages he is expected to deliver.  We have already seen this happening in the past couple of days.  First, Romney identifies with Ryan’s tax plan, then insists that he has his own Romney plan, then admits that there is no or little difference in their tax plans, and then adopts the tax views of Ryan.  We can expect to see more changes.

One final note:  Romney claims that he made up his mind about selecting Ryan as his VP on August 1st.  That appears to be untrue!  The rate of movement of the PoF is about 12 degrees per day, the same as the Moon relative to the Sun’s motion.  It would appear that Romney’s choice was made some two days earlier.  If we remember that prior week’s news, Romney was being battered over not releasing his tax returns, hit hard by several political ads, and slipping quite badly in the polls taken for key battleground states.  It would seem that he was responding to his lack of impact and management of his political program and market image.  Perhaps we should look next at his Moon-to-Sun Return charts.  Dave

A Change in U.S. Republican Campaign Strategy

Mitt Romney was planning on waging a “referendum” campaign against President Obama  — Are you better off now than you were before?  On Saturday, Aug.11th, Romney announced his selection for Vice President; Paul Ryan, Congressman, head of the budget committee.  Now, the campaign was going to be focused on taxes and debt reduction — the structure of the economy and the effects of taxes and debt on social security, medicare and health insurance.

In this posting, a methodology “Moon-to-Sun” Returns will be utilized.  The transiting Moon to the natal Sun represents a new form of Lunar Return which portrays how the t/Moon (changes in the world around you) impacts the n/Sun (your life-flow, well-being, interests and attitude).  Paul Ryan experienced such a Moon-to-Sun Return on August 1st, 2012.  This “Return” last two weeks until a t/Moon-opposite-n/Sun Return occurs.  This, then, is a dual cycle, each half covering two weeks of time.  While the Return chart presents the “theme” of one’s life for the next two weeks, daily charts can be produced for each/any day in those two weeks by recalculating the date, keeping the “time” and “location” the same.  The precession corrected Moon-to-Sun Return chart is shown below.

In Moon-to-Sun Return charts, the house position of the t/Moon-to-n/Sun sets the theme for the following two weeks.  In this 11th house placement, a standard theme would be “One contributes to joint-ventures having a public impact, helping to develop new careers, directly supporting the creative efforts of others, launching or completing financial ventures on behalf of others.  Financial gains or losses due to career decisions.”  This is an appropriate statement for Ryan’s situation.  Also part of this story is t/Sun opposing n/Sun & t/Moon plus n/Venus; two Suns often symbolizes two men in partnership.  n/Venus points to one’s natural attractiveness or, in this case, political charisma.  One wonders who will capture the “essence” of the campaign — is this another McCain-Palin situation?

Another significant chart factor is Part of Fortune @ Descendant; “Chance or change is brought about by the actions of others.”  n/Mars @ Asc.; “Leadership and one’s developed ambition/presence” is put on display and called into action.”  Finally we need to look at t/Node conjoining n/Asc. (Wisconsin) and n/Neptune.  We might see this pattern through political eyes wherein the n/Asc. indicates the nature of his basic down-home personality and qualities, the n/Neptune looks to his visions of new ideas (9th house).

In the next post we will “advance” this chart to August 11th to view its significance as well as to what was behind his selection by Romney.   Comments can be posted within this posting or sent directly to me by e-mail, dadsnook@charter.net.  Dave.

Barker’s Last Year as TV Host

Bob Barker’s precession-corrected Solar Return for Dec. 12, 2005 covered his following October on-air announcement of his retirement as a TV game show host.  What does one’s impending retirement look like in a Solar Return chart?  Is there a unique astrological indicator?  No.  Yet, the indications are there to see.  Within the context of his life, we know that he had become a legend on the small screen,  A whole generation had grown up and aged with him as they followed his daily shows.  So, lets look and discover what “retirement” might look like.

The first chart characteristic to note is the S/R MC and Asc. angles have just passed the natal MC and Asc. angles.  When ever such a match up occurs we can expect a major life change to be a strong possibility.  The actual alignment would have happened some 10 days earlier, and probably marked the time when he started making plans to move his interests and energy from TV to his animal rights work which was the true love-of-his-life and his personal legacy to his wife’s memory. The angular match-up of these two chart angles in a Solar Return indicates a major shift in life’s direction.  In a Daily chart they can indicate the timing and nature of a substantial life changing event.

The second chart characteristic to note is the activity along the Asc. angle: we can note t/Jupiter at the n/Asc. and n/Mars.  We note t/Mars and t/Moon at the Descendant angle.  In an earlier posting it was noted that Barker displayed his n/Mars at the Ascendant as indicating his on-stage presence and command of the pace of the show and interaction with the contestants.  In other areas of his life, this n/Mars was indicative of his fight and energies for animal rights work.  We might view the t/Mars at the Desc. angle as indicating that his presence and energies would be placed elsewhere.

As part of this Desc. angle grouping we note t/Moon.  Natal Moon was near the relocated-to-Hollywood-IC angle, signifying his public acceptance into people’s homes and the changes it signified for TV — not n/Moon opposes the dramatic, theatrical Neptune in the 10th.  If we treat the Moon-opp-Neptune-square-Mars as a T-square (all closely angular) we could say that this represented a popular (Moon) theatrical (Neptune) effort (Mars) as part of his life’s potential.  Transiting Moon, Mars, Neptune perfectly actualized this natal pattern.  The nature of the oppositional nature of this mirror-pattern suggests and “end” or “challenge” or “change”.  Couple this pattern with the life-changing indications of the Asc. and MC angles somewhat repeating themselves in this annual chart, and we easily deduce, due to his age and other interests (and the length of time on the show itself), that the “end” of a career or major phase of his life is likely.  This all fits into the “context” of his life.

It is not necessary to evaluate anything else in this chart.  Astrology has again proven itself to be “easy.”  All that a curious astrologer would next examine is the “when” of this decision.  What one day or one of several days might this happen?  In the next post we’ll take a peek into the process of finding the one or several possible “when” dates in the coming year.  Dave
